Kathleen Ann “Kathy” (Pikkaraine) Kowitz, 73, of Dilworth, MN, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Sanford Health Hospital, Fargo, ND, surrounded by her family. Kathy was born on August 17, 1951, to the late Eldred and Elizabeth (Pary) Pikkaraine in Wadena, MN.
Kathy grew up in New York Mills, MN, where she attended and graduated from New York Mills High School. She then attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, graduating with her bachelor’s degree and furthered her education at the University of Mary in Bismark, ND, earning her master’s degree. She was united in marriage to David Kowitz on May 29, 1976, in New York Mills, MN. Prior to retirement, Kathy had an extensive career as a medical records administrator both with the VA of Fargo and as a consultant in various parts of the United States.
Kathy and David enjoyed traveling to numerous parts of the world, including Africa, many visits to Mexico, and taking part of many cruises. The Mediterranean cruise being one of their favorites. They also enjoyed taking long road trips together taking in many of the country’s sites. Kathy also enjoyed reading a good book and knitting, knitting baby hats for newborn babies in the family and for friends. She was known as the hub of the family and could be often found preparing meals for them, keeping in contact, and loved spending time with all her loved ones.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband, David; son, Kristopher (Alex) Kowitz; sister, Karen Hayden; mother-in-law, Doris Kowitz; brother-in-law, Daryl (Kathy) Kowitz; sister-in-law, Pam (Jerry) Bruhn; and many other loving relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Eldred and Elizabeth; father-in-law, Harvey Kowitz; and her brother-in-law, Dennis Hayden.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., followed by the prayer service at 7:00 P.M., Friday, April 11, 2025, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Visitation will continue on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the memorial service at 11:00 A.M., at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. A livestream of the service will be available here on on her webpage. Final resting place will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN, at a later date.
