Kenneth J. Kowitz, age 79, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2025.

Survived by his wife of 32 years, Constance "Connie" Kowitz, children, Kim (Dom) Whitham, Sue Graham, Kevin (Kari) Wagner, Cathy (Stephen) Eichhammer, and Michelle Cygan; grandchildren, Nathaniel (Lilly) Whitham, Ben Whitham, Alex Whitham, Kendel Graham, Courtney (Chris) Dear, Branden (fiancé, Heather Ditchfield) Thomas, Cody Wagner, Jake Cygan, and Nate Cygan; great grandchildren, Harper, Mila, Saige, Bodhi, Hattie, and Ezra. Brother-in-laws, sister in-laws and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Preceded in death by his parents, James and Martha Kowitz; grandson, Tyler Wagner; granddaughter, Angel Kowitz, his in-laws, Clem and Jean Siniawski, and his first wife and the mother of three of his daughters, Karen Kowalski.

Kenneth James Kowitz, known affectionately as Ken to his friends and family, passed away surrounded by the love of his nearest and dearest, leaving a legacy of kindness, dedication, and community service that will be cherished by all who knew him. Born with a gentle spirit and a loving heart, Ken's life was a testament to the power of quiet strength and unwavering kindness.

Ken was raised by his loving parents James and Martha Kowitz in Stickney, IL, after a short residency in Cicero, IL, where his educational journey began at Cicero Public Schools, and where he first demonstrated his aptitude for numbers and his compassionate nature. Upon moving to Stickney, he attended Mac Arthur School, affectionately known as "The Little Red School House", and then St. Pius School, where he also served as an altar boy. He continued his education at Fenwick High School, laying the foundation for a future that would be marked by both professional achievement and personal fulfillment. Ken's pursuit of knowledge led him to Loyola University of Chicago, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting, a field that would benefit greatly from his sharp mind and impeccable integrity.

Professionally, Ken obtained his Certificate of Public Accounting and embarked on a rewarding career, first with GTE Communication Systems and AG Communications Systems Corporation, a joint venture formed by GTE and AT&T. He took immense pride in his work, particularly his business negotiations in Taiwan in the late 1980s, which stood out as a highlight of his illustrious career. Ken's expertise also served the public sector as he held the esteemed role of Treasurer and Finance Officer for the Villages of Lyons and Schiller Park, managing their finances with the same care and attention he applied to every aspect of his life.

Ken's contributions to his community extended far beyond his professional endeavors. He was an active and cherished member of the Stickney-Forest View Lions Club, where he served as an officer and had the honor of being President. His leadership and dedication to service were emblematic of his character and his desire to give back to the community he so loved.

Ken's passion for nurturing young talent was evident in his many years as a volunteer softball team coach and board member for Lyons-McCook Little League. His love for the game was only surpassed by his joy in working with the kids, watching them play, and meticulously recording their stats. His presence on the field was a source of encouragement and inspiration to countless young athletes.

In every facet of his life, Ken was the epitome of a gentleman-gentle, kind, and loving, and his life was a masterclass in humility and grace. He approached each day with a warm smile and a willingness to help others, traits that endeared him to everyone he met. Ken's legacy is not only in the tangible achievements he left behind but also in the countless lives he touched with his generosity and warmth, especially in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and his devoted wife and best friend, Connie, who knew without a doubt that they were the most important aspect of his life, and he loved them deeply.

As we say goodbye to Kenneth James Kowitz, we celebrate a life that exemplified the best of humanity. His memory will continue to light the way for all who were fortunate enough to know him, and his spirit will live on in the countless acts of kindness he inspired. Ken's journey on this earth may have ended, but the love he shared will remain.

Funeral services for Kenneth will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 10:00 am at Farkas Funeral Home, 3201 W. Jefferson Street, Joliet, IL. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park II (Hills of Rest). Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2025, from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm.
