C. Bruce Campbell, 83, of Staunton, a dedicated public servant and loving family man, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
He was born on December 11, 1942, in Albemarle County, to the late Everett James Campbell, Sr. and Louise Belle Farris Anderson. He lived a life characterized by service, both to his country and his community.
Bruce graduated with a degree in criminal justice from Blue Ridge Community College in Weyers Cave and went on to lead a lengthy and honorable career in the Staunton Police Department, where he served as a sergeant, dedicating over twenty-five years to ensuring the safety and well-being of his hometown.
A proud veteran, Bruce served with the Seabees in the United States Navy as a BU Petty Officer Second Class, completing three tours during the Vietnam War. His military service served as a cornerstone in life and it reflected his deep sense of duty to his country and commitment to excellence in all he undertook.
In addition to his professional achievements, Bruce found joy in the great outdoors. He loved hunting throughout the national forests in the area, a passion he shared with his two sons, instilling in them a profound appreciation for nature and the hunt. He also loved gardening and carpentry and he enjoyed working with his hands - often tinkering on various projects. Bruce was also a devoted dog lover.
He is survived by his loving wife of forty-three years, Joanne Lynn Manley Campbell; his two sons, Christopher Bruce Campbell and his significant other, Kelly Morris and her daughter, Raina Williams and Jeremy Lee Campbell and his wife, Ashley.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Robbie Austin Puckett Campbell.
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Staunton Police Foundation (116 West Beverley Street, Staunton, VA 24401) or to the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah (c/o Augusta Health Foundation, P.O. Box 1000, Fishersville, VA 22939).
