C. C. “Cat” Cox went home to Jesus on Thursday, May 8th at age of 96. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Cotton Valley. A graveside service will follow at the Cotton Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, May 9, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden, Louisiana. Cat was born to Ira and Blanche Cox on January 9, 1929 in Cotton Valley, Louisiana. As a child, he remembered loving to walk with his dog to the mill pond and going fishing rather than attending school. He learned to play dominoes at an early age and continued in his later years playing in domino tournaments.
He met his wife, Gladys Loriece Young Cox, in 1949 on a blind date. They married on April 9, 1949 and went on to have two children, Naomi Cox Coyle and Ouida Cox Garner. Cat and Loriece were married 72 years. He and Loriece faithfully attended and supported the Cotton Valley First Baptist Church for nearly 50 years.
Cat began his career by purchasing a Cities Service Station. He talked about washing Sally Baker’s car and how even though he was a grown man she still scared him. While working at the station, he also drove a Webster Parish school bus. An accident on the way home from a fishing trip led to a career in politics. His uncle who was the police chief was injured in the wreck so Cat was appointed to serve the term which ended being 26 years of service as well as on the Webster Parish Police Jury for 26 years. His last years of service were being a Cotton Valley Alderman and Mayor and serving on the Webster Parish Office of Community Services Board of Directors.
Cat is preceded in death by his mother, father, brother, and sisters. He is survived by his daughters-Naomi Coyle and Ouida Garner, sons-in-law-Zeke Coyle, and Danny Garner, two grandsons-Doug Coyle and his wife Sheli and Bryan Coyle and his wife Deena, five great grandchildren-Luke Coyle, Logan Coyle, Embeth Coyle, Landon Cox Coyle, and Reagan Coyle.
The pallbearers for the service are Nick Cox, Logan Coyle, Luke Coyle, Hank Haynes, Lutellis Smith, and John Welsh. Honorary pallbearers are Judge Jeff Cox, Landon Cox Coyle, and Colonel Carl Thompson.
The family would like to thank all the people who helped to make his journey to heaven easier. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church, Cotton Valley, LA 71018.
