C. Maberry Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 15, 2025.
Charles Calvin Maberry of Willard passed into the presence of the Lord Jesus on November 14, 2025. Calvin was born January 22, 1933, in Rogers, AR. He was the son of the late Charles and Bertha (Hutcheson) Maberry. Calvin graduated from Willard High School. He entered the Airforce in 1951 and served for 2 years. In 1954 he began dating Arlene Rhea who quickly became the love of his life, and they were married August 20,1954. Calvin credits the Lord in using Arlene mightily in his personal walk with the Lord. They were blessed with three children in their nearly 65 years of marriage. To Calvin, there was no greater woman in the world than Arlene and he daily exemplified what it meant to be a Godly husband who loved and led his wife before all else. She was his right hand in life, ministry, child rearing, and all their adventures. In the early years of their marriage, Calvin operated their dairy farm and worked at Kraft Foods in Springfield, MO. In the early 60's, Calvin felt the Lord's calling on his life to ministry and he became the Associate Pastor of Hamlin Baptist Church. In 1973 he became the Senior Pastor of Hamlin where he served for 24 years. He loved this church dearly and faithfully remained a member and Sunday School teacher until his passing. Early in his time at Hamlin he graduated from Luther Rice Seminary with a Bachelors of Arts and a Masters of Arts in Counseling. During his years in ministry Calvin also served as the chaplain and dedicated fan of the SMS Lady Bears. He had the honor of baptising all but one of his children and grandchildren and performed each of their marriage ceremonies. After retiring as pastor in 1997 he served other churches as interim pastor, was a member of the Lion's Club, continued to be an avid sports fan, and lived on his beloved farm where he gardened with Arlene and worked cattle.
As a father, Calvin taught his kids to love the Lord and the value of discipline, hardwork and family. He was always quick to listen and slow to speak with advice filled with Biblical truth and wisdom. He was strong, loving, hardworking, and in every way humble and faithful. Four kids had the honor of calling him Grandpa. He teased, loved and diligently prayed for each of them daily. He taught them to love the Cardinals even when you're mad at the pitching and to treasure and know the word of the Lord. He was his family's rock and it is with great honor they carry on his legacy. Calvin was a dad, grandpa, and mentor to many and never hesitated to disciple and pour into those around him. He had an incredible gift of preaching and exemplifying the word of God that will be greatly missed this side of heaven.
Calvin is survived by his children Kent (Lori) Maberry, Ralene (Steve) Graves, Karen (Jeff) Williams; grandchildren Seth (Abigail) Maberry, Hannah (Luke) Harding, Oren (Lakin) Maberry, Stephanie (Kyle) Shoop, and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Arlene.
The funeral service and visitation will be held at Hamlin Baptist Church. Visitation will be at 11:00am and the service at 1:00pm on Tuesday, November 18 with Pastor Kenney Qualls officiating. Interment will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those desiring can contribute to Hamlin Baptist's building fund 1942 W Farm Rd 102, Springfield, MO 65803. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home East. Calvin asked to not have a "flowery obituary" ; he just wanted to be known "as a product of Northwest Arkansas pioneers."

Calvin was such a blessing to 5 generations of our family - starting with my great-grandmother, Opal Shoe, who was faithful to attend and who listened, intently, to his sermons. My mother, Norma Driver, called on him when any of our family needed him and he was always there with us. I, specifically, remember when my dad, of whom I was not sure was saved, was critically ill in the hospital. I called Calvin and asked him to come to the hospital to speak with my dad and help lead him to Christ, by faith. Calvin spent time speaking with my dad, and with all of us, and was such a comfort, especially, to my mother. Before he left, he said, "You've accepted Christ,by faith, right, Don?" Dad replied, "Right, buddy." I was so thankful to God and to Calvin for coming! Calvin knew we needed to hear the assurance that dad was saved - that he had accepted Christ by faith. God bless this wonderful, gentle, loving man of God. Well done, thou good and faithful servant...

Brother Calvin has always been a very important part of my life. He has buried and married nearly everyone in my family.
He was my pastor, mentor, and dear friend, as was Arlene. Earth´s loss is definitely Heaven´s gain! We will all miss him, but he is with Jesus, and the love of his life, Arlene! He leaves quite a legacy, and will always be remembered for being a true man of God. Praying comfort to Kent, Ralene, Karen, and their families in the earthly loss of their precious Daddy.
I loved him dearly!

Bro. Calvin was my family´s Pastor, neighbor and friend. He was a great man and a great spiritual leader. He led our son to the Lord. Though Bro Calvin is now absent from his body, he is present with the Lord and a great host of people who are in heaven because Calvin was an obedient servant of Jesus and a faithful spiritual guide.
