C A Smith

Mr. C. A. Smith, age 80, of the Drill section of Honaker, Virginia passed away Monday (December 15, 2025) at his home. Born March 30, 1945 in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Carson Major and Dixie Snoda Hess Smith. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a disabled coal miner and enjoyed riding 4-wheelers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Curtis Anthony Smith; two brothers, Kirby Allen "Johnny" Smith and Curtis Smith; and two sisters, Christine Lester and Eula Gay Smith. In his generation, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Survivors include his daughter, Donna Deskins and husband, Larry of Drill; two grandsons, Shawn Deskins and wife, Rachella and Shannon Deskins and wife, Brianna; special friends, Rick Sisk and Fayne Hess; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday in the Baldwin Cemetery at Drill with Rev. Joe Dye officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 10:30 to go in procession.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Deskins, David Ball, Rick Sisk, Shawn Vance, Keith Osborne, Larry Lester, John Sisk, and Shannon Deskins.
