After 101 years of life on this earth, Calvin “Jim” Kube went to his heavenly home on August 8, 2025. He was born at home in Lake George, Michigan on August 5, 1924 to parents, Arthur and Cecil (Lockwood) Kube. He graduated from Farwell High School in 1943 and joined the U.S. Army, serving in the Pacific Division of WWII from 1944 to 1945. Using the G.I. Bill, he attended trade school, learning office equipment, maintenance and repair. He earned his living as an office supply salesman, and he also started a Christmas Tree Farm in 1947, Santa’s Tree Farms, where he worked until 2023. Jim was a hard worker, shrewd business man, and successful at his crafts.

He loved his yearly fishing trips with friends and family, deer hunting, his vegetable garden and sports – especially U of M football and basketball and Tigers baseball. He is remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Catherine “Kay” (Pedjac). He is survived by his daughter Colleen Kube, his son, Chris (Kathy) Kube and his sister, Helen Schmidt.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Colonnades Assisted Living for their care, love, and respect they gave Dad during his short stay there.

Funeral service for both, Jim and Kay, will be held at Corpus Christi Parish on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may visit one hour before the service, and are welcome to the meal being served in the fellowship hall following the service, where more visiting is encouraged. Military Honors for Jim will be held immediately following the service, performed by the Bay County Veterans Council and the United States Army. Inurnment will take place at Surrey Township Cemetery in Farwell at a later date. Memorials may be made to Corpus Christi Parish in honor of Jim and Kay, or to a charity of your choice.
