Calvin "Cappy" Weatherstone

Calvin “Cappy” Weatherstone, 88, of Island Pond, passed away at his home on Friday, June 16, 2006.

He was born in Island Pond on December 18, 1917, the son of Walter “Jim” Somerville and Elizabeth (Nolen) Weatherstone. He graduated from Brighton High School. Cappy worked as a Chief Clerk for the Canadian National Railroad, at the Berlin, New Hampshire Servo Center. He was a 4th Degree member and financial secretary at the Knight of Columbus Gibbons Council Newport Post #1157. He was also a member of the St. James the Greater Catholic Church in Island Pond. He coached basketball at St. Mary’s School in Island Pond until it closed. He also refereed basketball games in the northern Vermont and New Hampshire area. Cappy was a Yankees’ fan and loved hunting and fly fishing. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and always welcomed company. In his later years he took up golf.

On June 20, 1946 Cappy married the former Laura Wilkins, who survives him. He is also survived by his daughters, Deborah Lefebvre of Island Pond, and Pamela Newland of Eliot, Maine, his grandchildren, Leslie Lefebvre, Jared Lefebvre, Aaron Lefebvre, Adam Lefebvre, Jennifer Bubier, and Jonathan Newland, his great-grandchildren, Trevor and Shelby Dodge, Eric and Abigail Bubier, and his sister, Grace Hurley of North Stratford, New Hampshire. He was predeceased by his brother William Weatherstone and by his sister, Phila Russell.

A memorial mass will be held at the convenience of the family at St. James Catholic Church with burial at Lakeview cemetery in Island Pond.
