Calvin J. White

Calvin J. White of Bridgewater passed away at his home on June 16, 2023 at the age of 99 surrounded by his family.
Calvin was born on March 29, 1924 in Lawrence, MA but grew up in Canton. He graduated from High School in 1942 and joined the Navy during World War II, serving from 1943-1946.
Before leaving for World War II, Calvin met his future wife, Alice (Kundrot) on a blind date. When he returned from the Navy, they were married on August 25, 1946 in Stoughton, MA. They left to study at Fitchburg State University on the GI Bill. Calvin and Alice later relocated to Bridgewater where he pursued a long and successful career working for the Bridgewater school system from 1949-1984. He retired as the Dept. Head of the Industrial Arts Program at Bridgewater-Raynham Regional HS.
In the early 1950's, Calvin and Alice also started the Bridgewater Driving School, helping nearly 5000 students obtain licenses.
In 1985, Calvin retired, and he and Alice spent the winters in Fort Pierce, FL and summers in Bridgewater. When he was not teaching, Calvin loved going camping. The family spent many happy summers traveling throughout the US and Canada.
Calvin was also a master craftsman in woodworking. He loved crafting wooden clocks and other items which he would give as gifts to family and friends.
Always the teacher, Calvin loved extending his knowledge to others and always had a good story to share. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A loving husband of 77 years to Alice (Kundrot), father of Sandy White of Bridgewater, Michael White and his wife Nancy of Florida, Mark White and his wife Barbara of Nantucket, John White of Bridgewater and Mary Riley of Bridgewater. Calvin is predeceased by his daughter, Carol White-Murphy. He leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
