Camilla Zayac, 93, of Dunmore passed away Sunday at home surrounded by her family. She was born January 30, 1932 in Williamsport, PA to Joseph Vannucci (who passed when she was 5 years old) and Kathleen McGee Vannucci.
She was a graduate of Williamsport High School and attended Lycoming College. Camilla was a young, talented singer of the Big Band era in post World War II Williamsport. She went on to follow in her father's footsteps as a musical star performing at large events in the area for a number of years. She met Ted Zayac in Williamsport and they eventually married and raised their large family in
Dunmore, Pennsylvania.
Camilla's main focus and concern was raising her children while maintaining a loving and spiritual home. She was very religious and raised her children at St. Michael's Byzantine Church. She was President of the PTA and President of the Altar and Rosary Society. She also volunteered and operated the concession stand at Schautz Stadium for the Teener League while her husband coached and her sons participated. As a young mother she sold Avon and continued that effort for over 60 years.
She worked at Family Pharmacy in Dunmore in the 1980's and later at JC Penney Telemarketing Customer Center in Moosic where she retired in 2004. Despite her age and mobility difficulties in the past several years she managed to travel to her grandchildren's weddings, graduations and family funerals from Los Angeles to Washington DC.
Camilla was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore "Ted" Zayac Sr. of nearly 50 years, in 2004 and great grandson Jude Theodore Zayac. She had one brother, Joseph Vannucci and his wife Marilynn, who both passed in 2023.
Camilla is survived by her 10 children, Ted Jr (Kim Miller), Diane (George Pachucy), Mary Rose (Tom Hurst), Dan, Michael, Kathleen (Richard LaRussa), Theresa, Joseph (Nicole Marta), Ann (Dr. Ted Tomaszewski), and Julia (Dr. Keith Pritchyk).
Camilla is also survived by 20 grandchildren- Cara Zayac McCormick, Stephen, Gregory, and Bryan Zayac; George Pachucy III; Thomas and Jessica Hurst; Dana Zayac; Allison, Richard and Victoria LaRussa, Rebecca LaRussa Schwinger; Joseph Zayac; Nadja, Natasha, Nicholas and Nathan Tomaszewski; Natalie, Claudia and Keith Pritchyk and two step grand-daughters Jolane Sottile and Maria Cielski. Camilla is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren- Calin, Mackenzie and Delaney McCormick; Helen and Cecilia Zayac; Gregory Jr, Matilda and August Zayac; Wilson, Max and Ruby Zayac; George Pachucy IV; Cami Hurst; James and Elliot Hurst and eight step great-grandchildren Aliyah, Nathan, Logan and Noah Sottile; Milana, Mason, Morgan and Myla Cielski; along with many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Albert P. O'Donnell Funeral Home 2025 Green Ridge Street Dunmore with divine liturgy at 10:00 A.M. at Saint Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church 511 East Drinker Street, Dunmore. Interment Saint Michael's Cemetery Dunmore . Friends may call Friday 3-7 PM. Parastas will be at 2:30 PM. Those planning to attend the funeral are asked to go directly to the church.
