Candace "Candy" Taylor Patterson Lamel, 74, of Double Oak, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, after courageously battling cancer for more than eight years.
Born in West Chester, Pennsylvania, on March 14, 1951, Candy lived a life defined by creativity, resilience, and deep love for her family and community. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Miami University (Ohio) and later a Master's in Finance from the University of Dallas, shaping her career and the thoughtful, steady way she approached life.
Candy was devoted to the town she adored-Double Oak, which she lovingly called "the best little town in Texas!" She spent countless hours volunteering and supporting community efforts, always offering a helping hand and a warm smile. Amongst her involvement, she served as President of the Double Oak Women's Club, served on the Double Oak Board of Adjustments, was an avid Bridge player, and enjoyed Bunco nights with friends in town. Her commitment to helping others and her genuine love for her neighbors left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.
Family was at the heart of Candy's world. She took immense joy in being a grandmother. Whether cheering from the sidelines at sports events, celebrating academic milestones, or enjoying weekend visits, Candy cherished every moment with her grandchildren – Tristan, Jacob, Lucas, and Emma. She also loved traveling to North Padre Island throughout the year, where she found joy in visiting family, relaxing by the water, and casting a line to catch a few fish while listening to music.
Candy is survived by her brothers James Patterson of Columbus, Ohio, and Jack Patterson of Copper Canyon, Texas; her stepsisters Caroline Patterson Morris of Asheville, North Carolina, Anne Patterson Lawyer of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Betsy Patterson Sebastian of Upper Arlington, Ohio, and Miriam Patterson Squillace of Livingston, Montana; her children Christina Counts Godines of Corpus Christi, Texas, Mason Counts of Flower Mound, Texas, and her stepson Kevin Lamel of Allen, Texas; and her beloved grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Jerome Lamel, her mother Shirley Roberts Patterson, her fathers Lawrence (Jack) Taylor and James Patterson, and her brothers Mark Taylor and Bruce Patterson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Candy's honor may be made to the Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department, the
American Cancer Society, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. A small, private service is planned for a later date, to spread her cremains alongside Mr. Lamel's, in North Padre Island.
Candy lived by the simple yet profound belief that "Every day is a gift." Her warmth, resilience, and generous spirit will be remembered always.
