William Dwight Leatherwood passed away Sunday, November 16, after suffering a severe concussion from a fall earlier in the month. Condolences may be sent to his wife, Linda, at their home in Argyle, Texas.
Dwight was born in Wichita Falls, Texas to Willis and Lotella Marie (née Earp) Leatherwood, who raised him with Seventh Day Adventist beliefs. After graduating from high school, he traveled up to Seattle, Washington but returned to Texas and began working in the Dallas area. In 1968 he married Karen Comstock and the couple moved to Keene, Texas where he and Karen ran a framing and art business on Highway 67 called The Red Shed. This allowed Dwight to get his degree from Southwestern Union College. He considered a career in teaching, but decided he was more mechanically inclined. So, returning to Dallas, he and Karen worked at various jobs, and eventually formed a business in 1980 building plating equipment tanks from sheets of thick plastic. The business blossomed with the area's digital equipment circuit board boom, especially with Texas Instruments being an early client. Leatherwood Plastics has grown to be a solid
Lewisville, Texas business today.
Dwight always tinkered with cars as well as he loved racing motorcycles under the number 13! After having a Corvette for a brief time while in Seattle, he bought a 1955 Chevrolet BelAir that he 'fixed up' for racing. His motorcycles were always his passionate hobby, especially his racing bikes and later his Harley's, but he never lost his car dreams and had lovingly cared for his 1939 Ford coupe - which was not only in 'cherry' condition but red as well!
Karen and he traveled the country in an RV later in life. In 2008, just short of their 40th wedding anniversary, Karen passed away after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. Dwight got his footing back with help from Linda Brafford who helped steer him back to solid ground. He and Linda married on December 1, 2010 and were about to celebrate their 15th anniversary together this year. Linda has been key in Dwight's life. As Karen was earlier, Linda has helped at Leatherwood Plastics and also traveled around the country with their motorhome and their 4 legged pets. Dwight almost always had Manchester Terriers, from his first one Joe, to his favorite Jake! He leaves Linda to nurture the two they have now.
Dwight had been diagnosed with a form of long term dementia back in 2020, and was battling it when he passed. He had fallen and suffered a severe concussion which led to his demise. He is survived by Linda, his former brother in-law Eric Comstock, cousins, and a phalanx of strong good motorcycle and Adventist friends through his lifetime. The Top Tin Car club, Christian Classic Cruisers and co-workers at Leatherwood Plastics also will carry on his legacy.
A celebration of life will be on Sunday, December 7, 2025. Visitation will be at 12:00pm and the celebration will begin at 1:00pm at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in
Lewisville, Texas (740 Edmonds Lane, 75067), 972.436.4581. In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully accepted at the
Alzheimer's Association Chapter of your choice. Please keep Linda and the stalwart team at Leatherwood Plastics in your thoughts at this troubling time. #13 has finally finished his race, and is ready to collect his trophy!
