Candis Potter

Candis "Candy" Potter, age 71, of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, passed away on August 12, 2025. She was born on December 1, 1953, in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, to Richard Potter, Sr. and Luetisha (Sipes) Potter.

Candy grew up in Truth or Consequences, where she graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1971. In high school, she was active in track and field, studied art, and enjoyed modeling. Raised in a ranching family, Candy spent much of her youth on horseback alongside her father, brothers, and ranching friends near Engle, New Mexico. Her love for horses and the ranching lifestyle remained with her throughout her life. She also cherished music and dancing, especially when listening to one of her brother's bands. With her adventurous nature and strong spirit, Candy often said she was "born 100 years too late."

She began her family at a young age and raised her son with love and dedication. Over the years, she lived in Houston, Texas, at a remote gold mine in northern California, and eventually returned home to Truth or Consequences. Candy built a varied and successful career, working as a laboratory and x-ray technician, serving as the administrator for the Sierra County Sheriff's Office, and later managing an automobile sales and finance company in her hometown. She retired in 2017.

Candy's true joys in life included horses, her dogs, ranching, and spending time at the lake with her close circle of girlfriends. She will be remembered as a loving mother, a loyal sister, and a devoted friend. Like her parents before her, she welcomed friends and acquaintances into her home with warmth, always ensuring they had a meal, a drink, and a safe place to stay.

She is survived by her son, Jayson Blanchard and his wife Aimee of Los Alamos, NM; her brothers- Richard "Punk" Potter, Jr. (Janine) and Wes Potter, both of Truth or Consequences; and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Candy's honor to a local animal shelter or rescue organization.

Candy's pioneer spirit, love of life, and generous heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
