Carl Wayne Austell, age 80, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 3, 2025, in Gilmer, Texas.
Carl was born on June 5, 1944, in Neches, Texas, to the late Effie Jean Beckwith and Joseph Wayne Austell. He graduated from Waco High School in 1962 and went on to pursue higher education, earning a college degree before beginning his career. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and later dedicated over 36 years to AT&T as a systems technician, working from December 1966 until his retirement in October 2003.
Carl had a deep love for plants, computers, and his cats, reflecting his patience, thoughtful nature and keen intellect.
He is survived by his loving girlfriend and closest companion, Jeanene Weaver; his devoted son, Michael Austell; his sister, Betty Austell; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Patrick Austell, and his siblings, Jim Austell, Charlie Austell and Linda Austell.
To me, my dad was my superhero in every single way imaginable. I am deeply saddened by his loss. I would like to give special thanks to Jeanene Weaver, Kent Bailey, and my cousin, Libby Austell, his closest friends and family, for their love, support, and help with the funeral arrangements.
A gathering of Mr. Austell's family and friends will begin at 4:00 p.m. with his funeral service to begin at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive. His graveside service will be 1:45 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston.
