Carl Barnes, Sr Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carl Miller Barnes, Sr. on Monday, June 3, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.
Carl was born on October 13, 1942, in
Elizabethtown, NC to Mable Cumbee Barnes and Rev. Lalon L. Barnes of Bladen County, NC. He grew up in Colly/White Lake, North Carolina, and attended Garland High School. At the tender age of 17 years, he enlisted in the United States Navy and later continued to proudly serve in the North Carolina National Guard. Carl graduated from Campbell University with a Bachelor of Science, which served him well throughout his 20 years with AT&T and almost 20 years with the US Bankruptcy Court.
Carl will be remembered for his servant's heart as well as his bold and unwavering faith. Having been taught well, by goodly parents, of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ he began to wonder about the Great Apostasy and if we are still roaming this vast wilderness without Prophets and Apostles. He soon learned that Christ's church had indeed been restored on the earth. His membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints defined his mortal purpose and transformed his life. If you are lucky enough to be one with whom he shared this great message, then it can never be said that you were not loved. His children will forever be grateful for the freedom to make their own choices, the wisdom shared when asking for advice and he would say "I have an opinion, but it's just that an opinion. Have you asked the Lord?", and especially for the front-row seat they were given to the sanctification process that comes as one gives their heart and soul to God.
Carl was a devoted family man and is survived by his loving wife Natalie Almond Barnes, his children Carl Miller Barnes, Jr of Tennessee, Audrea Mable Barnes Brisson of Bladen County, Teresa (Tracey) Sandra Barnes of Tennessee, Carlisa Deanna Barnes Craft (Todd) of Idaho, Christopher Albert Barnes (Angie) of Pikesville, Arnold Dale Barnes of Bladen County, Mable Rose Barnes of Bladen County and his 17 grandchildren & Five Great-Grandchildren, his former wife Sandra Pait Garner and Emily Rush Williams. He also leaves to cherish his memory of his siblings, A. Roger Barnes (Luise) of Apex, Joann B. Stevens (Tommy) of Durham, Glorietta Barnes of Elizabethtown, Faye B. Dunaway of Wilmington, Amanda B. Griggs (Tony) of Florida, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Thelma S. Barnes, Sisters Nettie Elizabeth Barnes and Doris Barnes Carter, Brothers Rev. Lalon Lem Barnes, Jr., Clyde Otto Barnes Sr., Henson Perrymore Barnes, Randy Munn Barnes, stepbrother Pat Adair, Sister-in-law Mary Catherine (Kitty) Allen Barnes, Brother-in-law Ralph Chancy Carter Sr., Son in-laws Jeffrey Lynn Brisson and Richard Woodard, and great-granddaughter Jayzlee Sue Hall. No doubt they were all there with our Savior, Jesus Christ, to welcome him with open arms and the words he longed to hear, "Well done thou good and faithful servant."
A time for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening from 5 PM until 7 PM at Royal-Hall Funeral Home, 301 McKoy St.
Clinton, NC. A private burial with Navy Honors will be held at a later date at Susie Sandhill Cemetery in Garland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to https://www.autismspeaks.org in Carl's memory.
Until we meet again, Carl. You will be dearly missed.
