Carl James Brinkmeyer, of Yantis, Texas, passed away at his home on July 27, 2025, at the age of 82.
Carl was born on January 21, 1943, in Brenham, Texas, to the late Eddie Henry Brinkmeyer and Hulda Caroline (Kaechler) Brinkmeyer.
On June 22, 1962, Carl married the love of his life, Paula Beth, in McKinney. Together they built a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. Carl dedicated over 30 years of his life as a truck driver for Kraft Foods in Garland, and retired at the age of 55.
In 1998, Carl and Paula moved from Plano to Yantis, where he enjoyed the peacefulness of rural life and time on Lake Fork. In his younger years, Carl was a proud member of the American Sportsman Club. He had a passion for the outdoors—especially deer, dove, and turkey hunting, and fishing with family and friends.
To his grandchildren, he was simply “Papa”—a title he wore with pride.
Carl is preceded in death by his wife, Paula Brinkmeyer; parents, Eddie and Hulda Brinkmeyer; two sisters, Lois Elaine McCaig and Deloris Fowler; brother, Eddie (Sonny) Brinkmeyer; and nephew, Alan Trietsch.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Danny Brinkmeyer and wife Nan of Wills Point, and Tony Spurgin and wife Laura of Carrollton; brother, Delphine Brinkmeyer and wife Beth; sister, Shirley Trietsch; seven grandchildren, Jaakob Brinkmeyer, Austin Brinkmeyer, Taylor Douglas, Jay Brinkmeyer, Ashley Mack, Cody Spurgin, and Melissa Henry; seven great grandchildren, Charlie, Peyton, Kwynn, Zoie, Izaak, Skylar and Blayne CJ; nieces and nephews, Angela Sullivan and husband Jimmy, Darrel Brinkmeyer and wife Jackie, Genea Fowler, Brian Fowler, Karen Trietsch, and Tanya Morrow; and several great nieces and nephews. Carl will be deeply missed and the hole left by his absence will be impossible to fill.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations. Graveside service will follow at Quitman City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday evening, August 1, 2025 at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers are Matt Taylor, Stephen Douglass, Darrell Brinkmeyer, and Jimmy Sullivan.
