Carl James Bynum, 72, of Gastonia, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC.
He is a native of Gaston County, born on November 20, 1950, to the late Mary Reno Bynum.
Carl was a veteran of the US Army. He was employed by Gaston Co Tree Service for many years, then Philbeck Tree Service and Treescape Landscaping. He was dedicated to his tree work. Carl loved his family, especially the grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Melinda Bynum; brother, Donald Walker; and sisters, Sally Johns, and Mary Becker.
Carl is survived by his wife of fifty years, Clara Philbeck Bynum; daughter, Angela Woods Jenkins (Randy); brother, Tommy Bynum; sisters, Jackie Fagan, Rose Blackwell, Marie Steedly, Mary Walker, Ruth Howard; grandchildren, Jason Benfield, Rachel Woods, Renee Woods, Quentin Woods, Tommie Davis Jr., Destney robles, Rudy Robles, Jair Robles; great-grandchildren, Cristian, Gabriel, Kehlani, Arizona, Bailey, Emilia, Leo, and Nehlani.
A Memorial Service officiated by Reverend Wayne Philbeck will be held Thursday, February 16, 2023, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 S. York Rd. Gastonia, at 3:00 PM, with military honors by the NC Honor Guard and the Gaston County Honor Guard. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
