Carl Doria

Carl Doria, 95 of Tehachapi, CA passed away peacefully at home on April 11, 2025. Carl was born on October 23, 1929, in Milwaukee, WI.Carl enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1948 and faithfully served both domestically and throughout Europe. He advanced to Petty Officer 1st Class as an Electronics Technician and received an honorable discharge in 1952.He met his beloved wife, Barbara shortly after leaving the Navy and the two of them built a beautiful life of 66 years together raising 5 children starting out in Milwaukee, WI and then moving to San Fernando Valley, California. Carl set about a lifelong career in sales, first in Real Estate, then starting numerous businesses including a home service and repair company, a chemical waterproofing materials company, a gambling academy in Santa Monica, CA and even made a living as a professional gambler in Las Vegas for a time. But his love for electronics led him back into that industry where he became the International Sales and Marketing Director of a large industrial electronics company where he made and maintained numerous friendships.Carl and Barbara retired in Tehachapi in 2000. Carl kept himself busy serving as the president of the local Toastmasters club and eventually picking up the game of chess. He volunteered with the Tehachapi High School Chess Club for 3 years. Gradually, his love of chess became an obsession, and the first question he would ask anyone he met was, "Do you play chess?" He played chess every Saturday with his chess group as well as scheduled games with other friends throughout the week and taught a few children to play the game. Carl is survived by his children Michael Doria, Debra McNeil, Gina Madden and Robert Doria; two sons-in-law Jim McNeil and Greg Madden, eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.Memorial services will be held at Christian Life Assembly of God, 920 W. Valley Blvd., Tehachapi, CA 93561 on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 11 a.m.
