Carl Francis Dunn

Mr. Carl Francis Dunn, age 80, of Sparta, peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2024 in Grand Rapids, MI.
He was born on February 8, 1943 to Russell and Anna (Siebold) Dunn of Rockford, MI. Throughout his youth he was an active member of the Future Farmers of America. He attended Rockford high school and upon graduation went to Michigan State University for 2 years.
Thereafter he was drafted into the United States Army and became part of the 35th Field Artillery Regiment, where he served his time in Germany. Then returning home to life on the farm and trades as a plumber for Earl Phelps Plumbing. Through out his life he strived to be the best at his trade, thus becoming a Master plumber. He loved to share his knowledge and skills with all around him.
August 19, 1972 he married Gail Barnhart at Mary Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church-Sand Lake, MI.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Conklin and sat upon the Knights of Columbus Msgr. Leo Rosloniec Council, Conklin as well as the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Assembly.
Mr. Dunn was an avid dairy farmer at heart. He had a personality that was taller than his height. He will be remembered by his family and all who knew him as being hard as the clay in the field, dependable as the sunrise and sweet as alfalfa.
Carl was also known to enjoy helping family and friends, playing Euchre and dice, checking his rain gage, mowing his most beautiful lawn and making his phone calls to check up on all of us to discuss the weather, the crops and if we were working hard or hardly working.
Nothing made him happier than being Dad, Uncle Carl and most of all Papa.
Carl is survived by his wife, Gail E. Dunn; two sons, Brian Mark Dunn, and Michael George Dunn; daughter, Tricia Marie Dunn; four grandchildren, Zachary William, Kendall Elaine (Blaise Alan), Dorothy Verlin, and Lily Jackson; five sisters, Patricia LaMorre, Charlene (Gerald) Hawley, Lucille (Donald) Empie, Barbara Cooper, and Judith (Gillis) Empie; in-laws, cousins, several nieces and nephews, and acquired sons and daughters.
He was preceded In death by brother, James Dunn; grandson, Aaron Lee; late wife, Marilyn Dunn; parents Russell and Anna Dunn, and mother in law, Opal Waller.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 16, 2024, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Pederson Funeral Home, 127 N. Monroe St., Rockford, MI 49341 and Saturday, February 17, 2024, 10:00 am - 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 18784 8th Ave., Conklin, MI 49403.
The Mass of the Christian Burial for Mr. Dunn will be offered on Saturday, February 17, 2024, 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church - Conklin, Conklin, Michigan, with Father Andrew Ayers, officiating. There will be a luncheon immediately following the Mass, where friends may also greet the family.
Interment will take place in the Mary Queen of Apostles Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested for the Intentions of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 18784 8th Ave., Conklin, MI 49403.
