Carl Stanley Dupree Sr. was born on June 30, 1944, in Braddock, Pennsylvania, the youngest of six children to the late Chesy James and Arris (Fountaine) Dupree. From the very start, Carl had a spark-one that shone brightly in everything he did.
Carl spent his formative years in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, where he quickly made a name for himself as a talented athlete, excelling in basketball, football, and track at Turtle Creek High School. His natural abilities and dedication earned him numerous accolades. Beyond sports, Carl had an unwavering sense of humor and a gift for making those around him smile. His playful spirit, especially his endless pranks on his sister Catherine, became legendary within the family.
After high school, Carl made the move to Passaic, New Jersey, where he reunited with his siblings Catherine and Duke. It was there that he began working at Manhattan Rubber and later at Continental Can where he dedicated many years of hard work. But it wasn't just work that made Passaic special- it was where he met the love of his life, Beverly Moore. Their love story spanned 52 years filled with laughter, devotion, and the joy of raising four beautiful children.
Carl had an adventurous spirit and was never one to shy away from a challenge. In the early 1970s, he had the exciting opportunity to try out as a kicker for the New York Jets - an achievement that remained a proud highlight of his life. He also had an entrepreneurial mindset, always thinking of creative ways to support his family. And when he wasn't busy working or dreaming of new ventures, you could find him at the card table, laughing and competing with friends and family.
He was a man who loved deeply. When Beverly passed, Carl never remarried-his heart forever belonged to her. He was a devoted father, a doting grandfather, and a cherished uncle, brother, and friend.
On Tuesday, January 30, 2025, he peacefully departed this life, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Carl was preceded in death by his beloved wife; Beverly Moore Dupree, parents; Chesy James and Arris Dupree, his brothers; James Chesy Dupree, and Edward (Duke)Dupree Sr., his sisters; Henrietta Dupree Carter, Martha Dupree Francis, and Catherine Dupree Roberson. He leaves behind a family who loved him dearly his sister; Mary Jones, his sons; Carl Dupree Jr. (Sarah) of Clifton, NJ, and Mark Dupree of Rutherford, NJ, Deshawn Singleton of Woodbridge, VA, his daughters; Andrea Dupree of East Orange, NJ, Ruth King of Mound, Minnesota, an Nicole Dupree of Bloomfield, NJ, grandchildren; Kortney Dupree, Evan Dupree, Nygel Doe, Reginald Currie III, Tames Dupree, Blessing King, Paul Dupree, Assata King, Andrew Dupree Rayven Dupree, Harper Singleton and Cassidy Singleton and a host of nieces, nephews, and countless loving relatives and dear friends. Carl Dupree Sr. was a man with a peculiar wit. He loved with his whole heart and made sure everyone around him had a good belly laugh. Though he is no longer with us, his laughter, love, and unbreakable spirit will live on in all who knew him.
He will be missed beyond words but remembered with endless love.
