Carl Erickson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dello Russo Funeral Home - Medford on Apr. 11, 2024.
Carl A. "Al" Erickson, Jr, passed away peacefully with his beloved sister Alva by his side on Monday, April 8th, at the Park Avenue Health Center in Arlington. He was 88. A life-long Medford resident, he was the son of the late Carl A. and Margaret (Christensen) Erickson.
Al graduated from high school and served in the Army Reserve. During that time he earned his degree from Bentley College and was certified as a public accountant. He also worked alongside his father, a Medford Alderman, in the operation of his business, Erickson Coal and Ice. Carl eventually took over operation of the business now known as Erickson Fuel Co., which became one of the largest providers of home heating needs in the community. As owner and president of the company he distinguished himself with a strong work ethic and life time of commitment to his customers, which carried on even into his retirement.
For 38 years, Al was the longtime companion of the late Helen Hurd. Al loved spending his time off with Helen at her Portland, Maine home along with her children, who he cared for as his own and especially her grandchildren. Al was the only "papa" they knew. Al enjoyed fishing with friends and his dog, Duffy by his side. He also looked forward to spending time on Cape Cod during the summers, travelling with Helen, and going out for dinner. Al enjoyed a special bond with his sister, Alva, with whom he lived through his entire life. He was lovingly supported by her great devotion whether at home, the office or at his bedside.
The beloved brother of Alva M. Erickson of Medford, Al leaves behind Helen's children, Laura Whited and her husband Jess, Ron Hurd and Christopher Hurd and his wife Julie. He was also a loving "papa" to James, Emma, Allison and Jack.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Friday, April 12th from 10 AM – 12:30 PM with at funeral service conducted in the funeral home at 12:30 PM. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
