Carl A. Gross, age 83, of Chillicothe, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024 at his home.
Carl was born on April 25, 1940 in Peoria, IL to Carl and Eleanor (Decker) Gross. He married Jacqueline M. Hall on May 21, 1961 in Peoria and she preceded him in death on May 9, 2013. Also preceding him in death are his parents and his sister, Betty.
Surviving are his children, Caryn (Scott Lingenfelter) Knop of Chillicothe and Carl Darrin Gross of Chillicothe; his grandchildren, Jami (Steve) Turner, Colt (Ashley) Knop, Nathan Knop, Alayna (Isaac Koch) Knop and Frederick Shi; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Carl served in the US Air Guard from 1966-1968 before attending Bradley University. Carl worked for Montgomery Ward in Peoria, where he met his wife of over 50 years. He worked at Aerco in Peoria. He left Aerco in 1981 and became a founder of Entec in Peoria. He founded Carl’s Season Control in Chillicothe in 1985 and acquired J & J Manufacturing in 2000. He was also a member of the local Steamfitter Local 353 in Peoria. Carl was an active member of the community, serving as a Mason with the George Washington Lodge #222 A.F. & A.M., a member of the Scottish Rite, was a member and served on the board for Pearce Community Center, served on the Chillicothe Chamber of Commerce, was an active volunteer with Community Needs Agency and served 3 terms as a Chillicothe Township Trustee.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 2pm at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe with visitation held from 11am until 2pm. Rev. Edward Dutton will officiate. Burial will follow at Chillicothe City Cemetery. Memorials in Carl’s name may be made to the ARK in Lacon.
