Carl Ray Johnson
January 30, 1959 – October 9, 2025
Carl Ray Johnson, age 66, of Mt. Vernon, IL, passed away peacefully after a long health battle at 5:10 p.m. on October 9, 2025, at St. Joseph Select Hospital in St. Charles, MO, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on January 30, 1959, Carl was the beloved son of the late Jerry Johnson and Betty (Stewart) Johnson. He was a proud father and grandfather, loyal brother, and cherished friend, whose warmth, humor, and big heart touched many.
Carl is survived by his children, Tiffany Skidmore (husband Jason) and Cody Johnson; who he was elated to share a birthday with, (wife Emily) and eight cherished grandchildren. He also leaves behind his siblings: Jerry Johnson Jr. (wife Vicky), Debbie Sampson (husband Mark), Randy Johnson, and Mark Johnson (wife Julie), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends.
Carl spent 17 years working for the Neon Sign Company and was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). He also worked as a laborer for J&J Masonry, where he was known for his hard work and dedication.
Carl loved life and lived it fully. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, sharing laughs and stories, and above all, he deeply loved his family. In his free time, he could often be found shooting pool, fishing, or listening to St. Louis Cardinals baseball games - all of which brought him great joy and relaxation.
Carl's life was marked by kindness, loyalty, and a strong work ethic. His presence brought light and laughter to those around him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A grave side service to celebrate Carl's life will be at 1:00 on October 23rd at Bethel Cemetery in Mount Vernon, IL.
