Carl Kirkbride

Carl E. Kirkbride, born on December 15, 1958, in Wheeling, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, at the age of 67, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home after a long illness.

Carl dedicated over 40 years of his life to serving the City of Wheeling in operations, where he was known for his unwavering commitment and work ethic.

A man of varied interests, Carl had a deep appreciation for the classic charm of black and white movies and found joy in dancing. Carl shared his humor, laughter and lightheartedness with everyone he met. He was an avid supporter of all Pittsburgh sports teams, cheering them on with enthusiasm and pride.

Carl was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Carl and Alice Wheeler Kirkbride, as well as one brother and three sisters. He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Sally Garland Kirkbride, who stood by his side through life's many adventures. He leaves behind two cherished daughters, Melissa (Kendall) Kirkbride and Marie Kirkbride, who lovingly referred to him as "The Last American Cowboy." His legacy continues through his granddaughter, Tegan, who brought immense joy to his life; and his dear sister, Elizabeth "Libby" (Michael) Pompeo.

Friends and family will be received Tuesday, March 10, 2026 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, WV. In lieu of flowers, please bring a covered dish to share.

Carl's memory will forever be treasured by those who knew and loved him.
