CARL/(MAC) ANDERSON LINDBERG passed away on 5/21/2025 after a lengthy illness in Mission Viejo CA. Carl was born on 1/26/1932 in Ottumwa, IA and was 93 years old. He had spent the last 5 years living in his condominium in Huntington Beach, CA.
Mac was born in Ottumwa, IA on 1/26/1932 to Carl T. Lindberg and Violet L. (Anderson) Lindberg. Mac served in the US Coast Guard from 1950-1953 and during this time he met his wife Carleen (Schutz) Lindberg. He was stationed in Oakland/ Alameda County for most of his deployment. Mac and Carleen wed on June 18,1955 and lived in both Whittier and Hacienda Heights. They were married 64 years until her death in 2019. Mac earned a masters degree and then became a public school teacher and taught most of his career at Nogales High School in La Puente, CA. He taught both science and auto shop during his 40 year career.
Mac enjoyed racing cars (legally at drag strips in the Inland Empire) early on and then became quite expert at rebuilding and repairing all types of cars (Ford Mustangs mostly), although his last car that he cherished was a 1966 Ford Thunderbird convertible. There was nothing on a car or a boat that he could not fix or repair quickly with available parts (used or new). Mac’s true passion was boating and his favorite place with Catalina’s Avalon Harbor. Mac and Carleen owned a few boats over the years and always spent the month of August on their boat in Avalon. They were always very welcoming to family and friends on their boat. The last boat he owned was the ‘Touch of Class’ that he and his brother Ted built in Ted’s yard in La Habra Heights.
Mac was a 62 year member of the Whittier Elks Lodge and more recently joined the American Legion in Newport Beach, CA. He was very proud of his Swedish heritage.
Mac is survived by his children Duane (Tammy) Lindberg and Diane (John) Wentzel. Sisters Carolyn (Lindberg) Schumtizky and husband Alan Schumitzky, Joan (Lindberg) Eklof. Sister in-law Judy Lindberg. Grandchildren Heidi Wentzel, Brianna (Lindberg) Taylor and husband Kevin Taylor, Brittany Lindberg and Christian Wentzel.
Mac was preceeded in death by his wife Carleen in 2019. Siblings Arthur Lindberg in1992, Helen (Lindberg) Zear in 2013 and Ted Lindberg in 2020. Brothers in law Cary Eklof in 2011 and Keith Zear in 2025. Grandson Jay Wentzel in 2013
