Ishpeming- Carl "Gust" Maki age 74, died peacefully on October 28, 2023 at home while in the care of his loving family and UP Home Health Hospice after a short battle with cancer.
A lifetime native of Ishpeming, Gust was born on May 9th, 1949, the oldest son of Carl R. and Vivian (Ihamaki) Maki.
Gust worked for many years at Juntti's Garage where he loved meeting and chatting with customers. He then worked at Ruusi-Vivian Oil Company, where he continued helping people and making friends.
He had an immense love for music and enjoyed all genres, always searching for an album that he didn't already have. He loved to go on day trips across the UP, especially in the fall.
Family meant everything to Gust and he loved them unconditionally. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Verna "Cookie" (Robinson), one daughter, Laurie Ann Gough and one granddaughter Charlotte "Charli" Gough.
He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Terry and Dianne Maki of Wales, MI, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia and George O'Neill, sister-in-law Bobbie Kay Verran, all of Negaunee, MI, along with a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Blair Charles Maki. Also proceeding him were a sister-in-law Diana Andersen, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Paul (Tyker) Robinson and Vickie Robinson, a brother-in-law John T Verran, and a niece Crystal Lake Andersen.
The family would like to thank Jeremy Steele for all his care for Gust over the years.
Also, the family would like to thank the doctors and nurses in the ICU at UPHS - Marquette for all the care and compassion they showed to Gust in his final days.
Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A family memorial will be planned and posted at a later date.
