Carl Alex Marcis, 96, Wausau, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Carl was born December 24, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Anthony and Anna (Vaszka) Marcis. On October 12, 1940 he was united in marriage to Hilda Richter in Junction City. The couple farmed together raising cows, working a vegetable garden and making pulp in the winter time. As their children; Charles, Ken and Kristine, added to the size of the family each was instilled with the same strong work ethic that their parents had. In 1967, the family moved to Wausau and Carl began working for Wausau Homes as a carpenter until he retired 15 years later. Carl was an honest and hard working, Christian man. Never one to complain, he always had a smile on his face and pureness of soul. Never wanting to sit around when he could be doing something, Carl volunteered at St. Mark's, Bethesda, the Orphan Grain Train and the Wausau Monarch Lions Club. In his free time, Carl often could be found working in his wood shop making toys and other things or out in his garden raising beautiful roses. He often took delight when people would stop by to ask his advice on better ways to grow their roses and other flowers. Carl also enjoyed staying on top of current events by reading the newspaper cover to cover each day and keeping track of the Green Bay Packers each season. Carl is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Hilda; children, Charles (Eleanore) Marcis of Stratford, Ken (Carolyn) Marcis of Florida and Kristine (Randy) Riehle of Edgar; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Ted (Marian) Marcis, Anna Bajo and Helen (Peter) Muto, and many more extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Anthony, Wanda, Rose and Stephanie; and his daughter-in-law, Donna. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Friday, March 25, 2011 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wausau. Reverend Bruce Lamont and Reverend Chris Sansom will be officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM on Friday at the church and last until the time of services. Burial will be at the Mosinee Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mark's Lutheran Church (600 Stevens Drive, Wausau, WI 54401).
