Carl Anthony Ogas

Carl A. Ogas, M.D. of Muskegon passed peacefully from this life Tuesday May 6, 2025. He was born to Manuela and Ricardo Ogas on May 1, 1952, in Vallejo, California. "Tony" or "Doctor Carl," as he was affectionately known, was the fourth of twelve children in the Ogas family.

For a brief time, he attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison, afterward taking some time off, he worked several jobs including pizza delivery and in the various departments at AO Smith. Carl then made the decision to join law enforcement and became a Police Officer in the City of Milwaukee Police Department, finishing at the top of his academy class in both academics and physical training.

He furthered his education at Marquette University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Chemistry. After making the decision to become a physician, he enrolled in the University of Michigan Medical School at Ann Arbor, where he received his medical degree. He served his internship at the Cleveland Clinic and residency in Internal Medicine at Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

Carl arrived in Muskegon in 1992 and joined Hackley Hospital Internal Medicine Physicians Group. In 1996, he opened his own practice specializing in Internal and Sports Medicine – serving patients from all over the Muskegon area for 33 years. He was well-respected by his peers for his keen diagnostic skills and his extensive knowledge, while patients appreciated his laid-back manner, never rushing through appointments. For several years, Dr. Ogas served as a Hospitalist at Hackley Hospital and was affiliated with Trinity Health Muskegon and Corewell Health Zeeland Hospital. Most recently, he served patients via telehealth.

An avid sports fan, he put his medical training to work as team doctor for the local hockey team, practicing suturing on pickled pig's feet, so he was able to stitch up players quickly between periods. Dr. Ogas also volunteered his medical skills as team physician for Muskegon Catholic Central and Muskegon High Schools football teams.

Carl led an active life, enjoying cycling and cross-country skiing. He loved music and enjoyed singing karaoke. He was an avid reader and was especially fond of American, world and ancient history. His knowledge was so vast, many said he was a walking encyclopedia.

Carl will be remembered for his kindness, his exceptional skills, his voluminous knowledge, a unique and clever sense of humor and his steadfast love and devotion to his family. His presence will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his siblings Jaime Ogas, Sr., Edward Ogas, Suzan (Thomas) Fehring, Kathie McFadden, Thomas Ogas, David (Cheryl) Ogas, Michael (Nancy) Ogas, Martha Ghent, Mary (Michael Walker) Ogas, Dawn (Jason) Crane, Diana (Steve) Alioto; 16 nieces and 17 nephews; 17 great-nieces and 18 great-nephews; 1 great-great-niece and one great-great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuela (Uranga) and Ricardo Ogas, a niece and a great-nephew.

A funeral mass will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Blessed Savior Parish, 8607 West Villard Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53225, visitation 10:00AM, funeral Mass 11:00AM.

A memorial open house will be held Monday, June 2, 2025, at McGraft Park Community Building, 2204 Wickham Road, Muskegon, MI 49441, 11AM – 2PM.
