Quitman “Carl” Carley Roberts III, passed away on August 8, 2024 at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport. He was born on September 14, 1950 in Laurel, Mississippi. Carl has lived his life in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Florida.
Carl graduated from East Jefferson High School in Metairie, LA. He then went to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Gulfport. Carl then went to Full Sail Recording University in Florida. He then finished at William Carey University in Gulfport where he received a Masters Degree in Business Administration.
Carl was of the Methodist Faith and attended several Methodist Churches throughout, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Florida. He had a passion for guitars, corvettes, dogs, and Walt Disney World.
For many years Carl owned Professional Music and Mountain Music in Gulfport. This is where he sold and serviced musical instruments for musicians across the coast. Carl also worked at Rock & Roll Music in New Orleans.
Carl played guitar in bands across the coast, and most notably the Carl Roberts Group. He was a songwriter and owned a recording studio where he recorded and produced his own original material as well as tracks for other groups.
His love of Walt Disney World led him to become a Cast Member for 15 years before retiring. After retirement he settled back in Gulfport in 2020 where he was able to purchase his parents old home.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Q.C. Roberts Jr & Martha Godwin Roberts; brother, John David Roberts; sister, Ruth Roberts Bordeaux; niece, Amy Roberts; and nephew, James Carley Bordeaux.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sydney “Cindy” Fink Roberts; sister, Mary Roberts Cankaya; nephews, Adam Carley Cankaya, Jonathan Roberts, Stephen Roberts, Joel Eugene Bordeaux, and David Fink; nieces, Josia Bordeaux Ladd, Shannon Kitchens-Stonicher, and Catherine Fink. Carl also leaves behind to cherish his memory a host of friends and extended family.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Handsboro United Methodist Church (2333 Demaret Drive, Gulfport, MS 39507). Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Handsboro United Methodist Church. Graveside Services will follow at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery in Vancleave, MS.
In honor of Carl, we ask that everyone please wear red, black, or white which were Carl’s favorite colors.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Carl’s memory to the Humane Society of South Mississippi.
