Publish in a newspaper

Carl G. Smith, known affectionately as Carl to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Born on January 8, 1932, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and raised in Greencastle, PA, Carl's journey through life was marked by love, intelligence, and a fascinating array of interests and accomplishments that touched many lives.
Carl's formative years in Chambersburg laid the foundation for a life of active engagement and service. In 1947, his family moved to Yeadon, Pennsylvania, where he blossomed into an outstanding high school athlete. His prowess on the football field, the basketball court, and the baseball diamond was a precursor to a lifelong passion for sports.
After high school, Carl served his country with distinction for four years in the U.S. Navy, sailing on the aircraft carrier USS Wasp. His commitment to service continued during his college years as he served two summers in the U.S. Merchant Marine. Carl's academic pursuits led him to the prestigious Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his undergraduate degree, followed by a Master's degree from Temple University.
Carl's professional life was characterized by dedication and leadership. He spent many years with the Keebler Company as a personnel manager and a national labor negotiator, roles in which his intelligence and interesting personality shone. His commitment to community service was unwavering, even after retirement. Carl worked for Senior Victim Services and later shared his wealth of experience with the Lutheran Knowles Retirement Community until the remarkable age of 91.
Outside of his professional life, Carl was deeply involved in his community. He served as a scout leader, a youth baseball coach, and even took on the role of president of the Yeadon school board. These positions were not just titles to Carl; they were opportunities to influence and inspire the younger generation, something he did with great love and care.
Carl's interests were as varied as they were engaging. He adored his pets, a testament to his loving nature. A sports enthusiast, Carl particularly loved baseball and golf, and spending time in Sea Isle City, New Jersey, where he could indulge in these passions. Most of all, Carl cherished the moments spent with his family, who were the center of his world.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication as the loving husband of 62 years to the late Jill Smith. Carl was the proud father of Richard (Teresa) Smith of Springfield and Susan J. Smith of King of Prussia. His role as "Pop" to Christina Smith of Phoenixville and Michael Smith of Newtown Square was one he embraced with joy and pride.
Carl G. Smith's life was one marked by love, intelligence, and an array of interests that made him a fascinating individual to all who knew him. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by the many lives he touched. Carl's journey through life was a testament to a life well-lived, and his presence will be deeply missed.
