Carl N. Stiber Jr

Carl N. Stiber Jr., 92, met his Lord and Savior on March 9, 2025, after a brief illness. Born on October 2, 1932, in Newberry, Pennsylvania, Carl was the son of Carl N. and Dorothy (Kurtz) Stiber and the brother of Ann (later McCracken). From an early age, Carl learned the importance of family and faith, values instilled by his loving parents. He often remarked, "I didn't realize until later in life how their love was a lifelong family asset."
Carl had a happy and fulfilling childhood. In 1945, he played in what is now known as the World Wide Little League, which at the time consisted of only four hometown teams: Lundy Lumber, Stein Auto, Richardson Buick, and Lycoming Dairy. When he wasn't on the baseball field, Carl could be found playing marbles with his friends or attending Cub Scouts. After years of encouragement from his Scout leader, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout, a testament to his dedication and perseverance.
Carl pursued a degree in Economics at Lycoming College, graduating in 1954. At which time, he met and married Shirley Oberdorfer the love of his life and his soulmate. Together, they embarked on a journey that would span nearly 71 years. In June of 1955, Carl began his military service and was stationed in Augsburg, Germany, with the 11th Airborne Division. It was there that he formed lifelong friendships with his fellow servicemen.
Upon returning to civilian life, Carl had a successful career in retail management with Sears Roebuck, retiring after 35 years. He often credited his success to the unwavering love, support, and sacrifices of his wife, Shirley. Retirement allowed Carl to pursue his passion for travel, and he and Shirley enjoyed exploring the Alps through hiking. This became one of their most cherished shared experiences.They settled in Savannah Georgia calling it home for over 30 years.
Carl is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Shirley, and their four children: Judy (Barb), Jeffrey (Bonnie), Susan (Jeff), and Barbara (Jeff). He was a beloved Grandpa & Papa to his grandchildren: Eric (Krystal), Jessica (Tyler), and Nicholas (Amy). Emily (Scott), Jacob (Hannah), Kelsey (Brad), Devon (Myra), and eight great-grandchildren. Services held Saturday March 22, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Messiah, Lutheran Church W. Ridge Rd Savannah.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date at the family homestead in Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests donations be made to Messiah, Lutheran Church, Savannah, Georgia.
