Carl Strausbaugh Obituary

Carl was born in Jefferson, PA on October 31, 1934 and was the son of the late Roman and Edna (Kessler) Strausbaugh. He graduated from Susquehannock High School, Millersville University (Bachelor of Education), and Western Maryland College (Master of Education).
He proudly served his country as an SP4 in the United States Army from June 1957 until May 1959. Carl worked as an English teacher in the Spring Grove Area School District for 35 years prior to his retirement. He was a lifelong member of Christ United Church of Christ in Jefferson where he served as an officer and committee member of many groups, sang in the church choir, and taught Sunday School for 60 years. Carl was also a member of the Hanover Jaycees, Hanover Republican Club, York Symphony Orchestra Chorus, a Red Cross volunteer, and served one term as CEO of Glatco Credit Union in Spring Grove. He enjoyed woodworking, painting houses, fishing, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his loving wife "Katie", Carl is survived by his children Carl A. Strausbaugh (and wife Cindy) and Sara J. (Strausbaugh) Fox; his grandchildren Ben Strausbaugh, J. Nixon Fox, IV, Kate (Fox) Van Grouw, and Molly Fox. He is also survived by his brothers Roman "Jack" Strausbaugh and Robert Strausbaugh; and numerous nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his siblings Fred Strausbaugh and Kay (Strausbaugh) Rihn.
A Memorial Service in celebration of Carl's life will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at 10:00AM at Christ U.C.C., 32 Baltimore St., Jefferson, PA 17311 with Rev. Bonnie J. Whittier officiating. He will be laid to rest following the service at St. Peter's (Lischey's) Church Cemetery in Spring Grove with military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 9:00AM – 10:00AM prior to the service at Christ U.C.C.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carl's memory may be made to Christ U.C.C., 32 Baltimore St., Jefferson, PA 17311.
