Catharine Jean Horn

Catharine Jean Shenk Horn, 95, formerly of Quarryville, passed away on Thursday, March 5th under the care of Oak Leaf Manor of Millersville. She was the widow of the late Calvin C. Horn.

Born in Lancaster, Catharine worked as an elementary school teacher for 40 years, retiring as a 3rd Grade teacher in the Solanco School District.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, and Zion United Church of Christ.

She achieved a Master of Education Degree from Millersville Teachers College. Catharine was an avid reader of non-fiction especially WWII books. She was a Marimba player who would play for Christmas Eve Services, schools and retirement homes. She enjoyed gardening, was a worldwide traveler, and a member and twice Past Worthy Matron of Robert Fulton Chapter #446 of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Catharine is survived by her two daughters, Catharine, and husband William, Bitterman of Millersville, and Carla A. Horn of New Providence. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Helen Wagner, Melvin "Bob" Shenk, and Elizabeth Shenk.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Catharine's life on Friday, March 27th at 10:30 AM at Crossing Jordan, 7 Wesley Road, Quarryville, PA.
