Obituary of Carl White Young
Carl White Young was born November 14, 1943, in Oneonta, New York. He was one of four children born to the union of Philip and Effie Glee (Maeck) Young. Carl attended Bethlehem Central High School in Delmar, New York, graduating with the class of 1961. While he initially pursued higher education at the University of Toledo, Carl's studies were interrupted when he enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War where he served as a Navy Corpsman and medic, until his Honorable Discharge.
To provide for his family Carl worked as a civil engineer for the New York Central, Conrail, and Norfolk Southern Railroads for over three decades before retiring on March 1, 2000. Following his retirement, he continued his work in the industry as a senior construction inspector for URS.
On August 6, 1976, Carl married the former Caroline Burgard in Banksville, Pennsylvania. Together, they were blessed with two sons, Douglas and James. Both Carl and Caroline were active members of the Huron Baptist Church in Flat Rock, Michigan. He loved watching Fox News and was an avid reader with a particular interest in books about the "old west". He took pride in his red F150 Lightning edition pick-up truck with a modified engine and transmission, which he enjoyed driving only in good weather conditions, ensuring it never saw rain or snow.
Family was at the center of Carl's life, and he cherished his roles as a husband, father, and Papa above all else. Known for his caring nature, Carl was someone everyone turned to with their problems.
Carl White Young, age 80 of Carleton, Michigan went to be with his Lord on June 20, 2024. He passing was preceded by his parents; Philip and Glee Young; his son; James Young in 2017; a brother; Robert Young and his sister; Helen Magrum.
To cherish Carl's memory he leaves behind his loving wife of forty eight years; Caroline Young of Carleton, Michigan; one son; Douglas Young of Carleton, Michigan; one sister; Barbara Graffunder of Austin, Texas; two grandchildren; Katie (Michael) Harville of Jackson, Tennessee and Douglas Young, Jr. of Carleton, Michigan; three great grandchildren; Penelope Young, Karleigh Harville and Natalee Young who had a special bond with her "Papa".

I would go over on different evenings and cut his hair and chat about our weeks and our families. I would also cut other family members hair and sometimes eat dinner with them those nights.

Carl and Caroline would meet Steve and myself for dinners at different restaurants. We would hang out and laugh and Steve and carl would talk military.
