It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carlene Mary Koenig, beloved wife, cherished best friend to her daughter, and loving grandmother, who left us on September 30, 2025. Born in Hartford, Wisconsin, on June 27, 1962, Carlene spent her life cultivating kindness and laughter on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her daughter, Ashley (Alec) Kirby; her grandson, Alan Kirby; her siblings and their families, Arnold (Colleen) Fehring; Christine (Paul) Shelsta, Alaina and Alexis; Andy Fehring; Pamela (Tony) Geracie, Sophie and Wesley; Doreen Fehring. She is further survived by other family members.

Carlene was preceded in death by her husband, Steven Koenig; her parents Arthur Fehring Jr. and Virginia Fehring; her mother and father in law, Robert and June Koenig; her daughter's father-in-law, Eddie Kirby.

Growing up as a hardworking farm girl, Carlene developed a deep affection for animals, often naming all the cows (Black Ears) and many farm dogs (Rusty!) she tended to. Her love for life extended to her furry companions - particularly her beloved cats, Rodger, June, and Cheddar.

Carlene graduated from Hartford Union High School in 1980. She was a Valedictorian and held a long standing record for the shot put and discus in track and field. She then went to Fox Valley Tech and graduated with two associate degrees in banking and finance. She further went on to UW Stout and graduated with a bachelor's in general business and administration. Carlene served many different banks in the Milwaukee area.

Carlene met her beloved husband Steven playing on a volleyball team through the Milwaukee Recreation. They enjoyed many fun times together going to Brewers and Bucks games, tailgating and enjoying bloody marys in the parking lot. On May 4, 1991 Carlene married the love of her life, Steven. In December of 1994, they welcomed their daughter, Ashley, into their family. Carlene cherished her husband and daughter, considering them her world.

Known for her big heart, she embraced every moment with warmth and humor. Her sassy spirit brought joy to those around her, making every gathering an occasion for laughter and shared memories. She enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, from indulging in whiskey old fashions and her father's homemade wine to engaging in competitive games of sheepshead and rummy, creating cherished memories with her girlfriends during holidays and gatherings.

Later on, Carlene found her joy in education through the daycare that Ashley attended and made a career out of it.

Funeral Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, October 9, 2025 from 10:00AM to 1:00PM. Funeral Service will be at 1:00PM. Committal prayers to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
