Without a warning, Carletha, a beloved mother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend answered the Master's call. She was born on June 25, 1980, the daughter of Alvene Anderson and Herbert Moore, in Williamsburg, Virginia.
A lifelong resident of Williamsburg, she was employed by Walmart until her health would not permit her to work.
Carletha confessed her faith in Christ and was a member of both Morning Star Baptist Church and Faith Tabernacle Christian Center. She had a passion for singing in the choir.
On March 22, 2002, Carletha married James McCray Jr., the love of her life. This union was blessed with two children, James McCray III and Kaleighja McCray.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Mary Thornton and James Anderson; paternal grandparents, Anne and Herbert Moore Sr.; mother and father-in-law, Vanessa and James McCray Sr.; uncle Larry Moore; and aunt Ruby Anderson.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband James McCray Jr.; two children, James McCray III and Kaleighja McCray (Vernon); children she nurtured as her own, Sharmar McCray, Destinee Cox, James McCray IV, Hosea A. McCray, Randy K. McCray, and Semaj McCray; grandchildren, Jakayla A. Rivers-McCray, Vanessa G. Rivers-McCray, Vernon C. Rivers, and Khalifa JL Rivers; mother Alvene Anderson; father Herbert Moore; sister Lakisha Anderson; brother Herbert Anderson; special friend Tyashaia Walker; and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friend.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2025, at St. John Baptist Church, Williamsburg. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. McCray may be viewed on Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the church.
