Carlisle "Carl" Ray Saffer, age 85, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born December 16, 1939, in New Albany, Indiana, Carl was the beloved son of Howard and Clara Saffer.
A man known for his boundless energy, magnetic personality, and love for the spotlight, Carl never met a karaoke stage he didn't like. Night after night—seven days a week—you could find him performing classics by Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett, his voice filling the room with charm and flair. Carl took his passion seriously, often recording his performances and lovingly insisting that friends and family offer their critiques—whether they wanted to or not.
Carl had a gift for making any gathering lively with his never-ending stories and warm humor. He was the life of the party, a constant center of attention, and someone who rarely ran out of things to say.
Outside of the karaoke mic, Carl had a deep love for electronics. He spent much of his career in the electronics department for the school board before retiring and continuing his passion part-time at Lyndon TV, where he delighted in tinkering with gadgets and finding joy in every wire and circuit. Carl also enjoyed attending electronics conventions and solving puzzle books in his spare time.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Clara Miller Saffer, and his brothers, Jim and Leonard Saffer.
Left to cherish his memory, Carl is survived by his loving partner of 45 years, Cynthia Russell; his daughter, Kathy Bennett (Mike); his sister, Wilma Sampson (David); 5 granddaughters Krista Reams, Karyn Reams, Jennifer Elble, Jessica Nuñez, and Cathy Mattingly; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one niece and several nephews; and a host of extended family and close friends.
Carl will be remembered for his love of music, his brilliant mind, his joyful spirit, and the way he brought laughter and life to everyone around him. His voice, stories, and laughter will echo in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A funeral service for Mr. Carlisle Saffer will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Louisville Memorial Gardens West, 4400 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral service.
