Carlos “Carl” Jernigan, of St. Peters, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the age of 78. Beloved husband of the late Deidre “Dee” (Curry) Jernigan; cherished son of the late Bill and Ann (Jordan) Jernigan and stepmother Billie Jernigan; devoted father of Tera (Scott) Priest; loving papa of Cody, Dillan and Brady; dear brother of Paula, Robin (David), Chris, Joyce (Pat), the late Brenda (Stu), Kevin (Lisa) and Sam; cat dad of Smokey. Carl also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends to cherish his memory.

Carl grew up in Evansville, Indiana and at the age of 18 entered and served in the United States Marine Corps. Once he left the United States Marine Corps he went to work for his father’s local trucking company in Vincennes, Indiana where he began his career as a Transport Operator. Carl eventually took over that trucking business. After a few years, he sold the trucking business and moved his family to a suburb of Indianapolis, Indiana and began working for Consolidated Freightways (CF). In 1987, that job moved his family to St. Louis, Missouri and after 35 years in the trucking industry, he retired from CF in 2002 and ended his career with the special honor of receiving the 1Million Miles Safety award.

He married Dee on October 25, 1969 and was married for 39 years at the time of her passing. They spent time attending Eagle’s Conventions and riding their motorcycles taking trips to Colorado and Tennessee to ride through the mountains. During the summer, Carl would be at the ball fields where he not only played men’s softball, but also coached a women’s team. During the winter, you would find him at the bowling alley as he bowled in multiple leagues. Carl also enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He was also a devoted sports fan, he especially loved college basketball cheering on Indiana University (IU) and football where he enjoyed watching Mizzou, St. Louis Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs.

After retirement he became a dedicated member of the AMVETS Post #106 and was a member of the AMVETS Honor Guard. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #384 for over 30 years, where he served in many state level positions.

Carl was affectionately known as “Jarhead” to many but to his family he was referred to as Husband, Father and proud Papa. Carl was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Memorials may be made in Carl's name to AMVETS Post #106 – St. Peters, MO.
