Carlos Gerard Whiting,
Carlos, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on June 2, 2024, at the age of 57. Born on January 22, 1967, at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, VA. Carlos was the cherished son of the late Edith Peggy Wright and Wilfred D. Whiting.
Carlos accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior in his youth. As an adult, Carlos faithfully served in his church. He was a part of Zebaoth Lutheran Church until it closed in 2014 and then St. Marcus Lutheran Church until his passing.
Carlos is survived by his beloved wife Sheila, his wonderful children Jasmine and Carlos Whiting, Jr., his devoted brother, Gavin D. Whiting (Evelyn). He was a proud and loving uncle to their three sons, Justin, Trenton, and Kenyon Whiting. He is also survived by his step-sister Tracey Wright.
Preceded in death by his parents, Edith Peggy Wright and Wilfred D. Whiting, and his step-father Benjamin Wright.
Carlos graduated from Friendly High School in Fort Washington, Maryland, in 1985, where he was honored with the prestigious John Philip Sousa Award for his exceptional musical talent. Following his graduation, Carlos enlisted in the U.S. Army. His (MOS) Military Occupational Specialty was a unit supply clerk and he reenlisted as a US Army Band Member. He served with distinction during the Gulf War from 1990 to 1991.
On November 19, 1990, Carlos married the love of his life, Sheila R. Smith. Together, they built a beautiful family, welcoming Carlos Whiting Jr. on March 1, 1991. Carlos was also a devoted father to his "Bonus" step-daughter, Jasmine S. Whiting, born on February 16, 1989, whom he raised with love and care as his own.
Carlos was a lifelong learner. He earned an Associate's degree in Computer and Information Sciences and Support Services from MATC in 1995. He also received a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Carroll University in 2002, and a Master's degree in Management Information Systems in 2006. He worked as a computer programmer in various industries, finding his true calling as a Computer Science Teacher at Hamilton High School with Milwaukee Public Schools. He was the first teacher to proudly present the E Sports competitive program to the students. His family fondly remembers his joy and pride in sharing stories about his students and the fulfillment he found in teaching.
Music was a central passion in Carlos's life. He played in several bands, including Twister Army, and served his church as a bassist on their choir and worship team. Known for his jovial nature, infectious smile, and hearty laugh, Carlos brought joy to all who knew him.
Carlos was a dedicated member of the Groska-Witmer VFW Post #8320 from March 2017 until June 2024. He served three years as a Trustee and one as Quartermaster, holding critical responsibilities in managing and auditing the post's financial records. As a Trustee, Carlos was responsible for auditing the post books, records, and accounts of the Quartermaster. As Quartermaster, he was legally bonded, managed the collection and disbursement of funds, and ensured accurate financial reporting and compliance with regulations.
In addition, Carlos proudly served on the Honor/Color Guard for seven years, participating in numerous parades and ceremonial duties. He served as a flag bearer, rifle bearer, and cadence caller, honoring military traditions and representing the organization with pride.
Carlos enjoyed a wide range of activities, including road trips with his family, roller coasters, karaoke, dining at Texas Roadhouse, ballroom dancing, watching the latest movies, playing video games, attending military parades, and air shows. He also enjoyed outdoor sports like kayaking, canoeing, and whitewater rafting. He had a love for playing chess, visiting museums, and historical facts. He cherished visits with his family in Texas, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina.
Carlos Gerard Whiting's legacy of love, dedication, and joy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, students, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
