Pellerin Funeral Home - New IberiaCarlton Lamont Larson, known by all who loved him as Grumpy, went to meet his recently deceased wife in heaven on September 3, 2025. He was born in Michigan in 1932, and after graduating high school, joined the Air Force. After training, he was stationed in Biloxi at Keesler Air Force Base where he decided to go to meet his penpal and future wife, Sylvia Eldridge Larson. Together they enjoyed a happy and fruitful marriage for 72 years before Sylvia died at the end of June. He was preceded in death by two sons, Christopher and Carlton, his parents, Chris and Mary Campbell Larson, his brothers Robert, Richard, and Louis, and his sister Lucene.
Carlton (Grumpy) worked in the communication business where he fixed the radios used in police vehicles, offshore rigs, and boats. He even had a beeper business that served the New Iberia area. He enjoyed traveling all over the United States, going out to eat with friends and family, frequenting the casinos in this area and in Las Vegas, and in his later years, sitting outside to enjoy the warm weather in Louisiana and talking to neighbors who walked by. He spent many hours talking about his best friend, Emanuel St. Upery who preceded him in death, and all of the good times they shared.
Grumpy was an incredible father who showered his children with love, and he was always so proud of their achievements. He is survived by three daughters, Claire Flores (Ray), Karen Ladmirault (Wardell), and Mary Ellen Wilke (Jerry). He delighted in his grandchildren, Jason Wilke (Brittany), Sophie Flores-Hernandez (Kyle), Ian Ladmirault, Caitlin Kinler (Michael), and Rebecca Wilke (Kelly). Grumpy loved when the great-grandchildren, Luna, Sol, Holland, Parker, Avery, Peyton, Max, Caroline, Ellis, and Georgia, would visit and regale him with stories about everything from ballet to soccer games as well as what happened that day in school or just sit in his lap. Grumpy always looked forward to visits from Marcel Breaux, a young man he met though his daughter, Claire, more than fifty years ago.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jimmy Falterman and his staff for the kindness they always showed to him, the staff from Avanti Assisted Living, and his caretaker, Carolyn, from Right at Home.
A funeral will be held, with military honors by the Iberia Honor Guard, in the Chapel at Holy Family Mausoleum, 2807 Curtis Lane, New Iberia, LA 70560 at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025.
Deacon Josh LeBlanc will officiate. A short eulogy will be given by Ray Flores and readings by Sophie Flores-Hernandez and Caitlin Kinler. Urn Bearer will be Marcel Breaux.
