Carlton “Tom” Haley, Jr., 73, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Moses Cone Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 31 at Wilkerson Funeral Home, with Pastor Mickey Alcorn officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 5:00–7:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home, and at other times at the home.
Tom was born on April 26, 1952, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Carlton Sr. and Ruth Haley. He grew up in Reidsville, NC, and attended Reidsville Senior High School before enlisting in the United States Navy, where he served faithfully for 20 years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer.
During his service, Tom earned a degree from Wayland Baptist University and married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn. Together, they built a loving family and lived in many unique places, including Puerto Rico, Honolulu (HI), Philadelphia (PA), Long Beach (MS), and numerous other duty stations.
Upon retiring from the Navy, Tom returned home to Reidsville, where he became a charter member of Bible Baptist Church. He owned a computer business in downtown Reidsville and pursued a wide range of interests including photography, amateur radio, computers, astronomy, and travel. He especially loved cruises and family trips to the beach. Known for his warm and outgoing nature, Tom truly never met a stranger.
Tom was a devoted husband, father, and proud Pawpaw, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Daniel “Danny” Haley, and his brother, Julian Haley.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Carolyn Bailey Haley; daughter, Tracy H. Crowder (Anthony); grandchildren, Hayley Rhew, Austin Haley (Mary Kate), Christian Rhew (Jenny), Kristine Haley, Daniel Crowder, and Georgia Marion; great-grandchildren, Elijah Rhew and Pierson Rhew; brother, Raymond Haley; and sister, Juanita Church.
