Carmalee Foote Mitchell, 65, was unexpectedly called back home to her Heavenly Father on the evening of December 23, 2023. She was born March 22, 1958, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Betty Joyce Holyoak and Devon Warren Foote, and was raised in Kaysville, Utah, graduating from Davis High School in 1976. She then attended Weber State University for two years.
On October 6, 1978, she married Jeffrey Tullis Mitchell in the Ogden Utah Temple. Together they raised their four children in their home in Farr West, Utah.
Carmalee loved serving those around her. She was a devoted wife and homemaker and worked tirelessly to keep her family well-fed and the house clean. One thing she was known for was throwing bridal showers and giving homemade tied quilts to new brides. She made countless meals for members of her ward in their times of need and was always aware of those around her and tried hard to make everyone feel loved and included.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully held callings in many areas of the Church, including the Primary Presidency, Nursery, Compassionate Service, and most recently Ward Historian. As Compassionate Service Leader, she helped coordinate over 30 funeral dinners for members of her ward. She fully embraced her calling as Ward Historian and tried to record all she could about the history of her ward, including taking notes of every sacrament meeting. She spent several years leading small discussion groups at the 9th grade Seminary at Wahlquist Junior High School and was currently volunteering to lead music for the church services at the Seasons Assisted Living Center.
Carmalee was an avid Jane Austen fan and spent many years as a moderator for DarcyandLizzy.com Forum. She made many friends there and published recipes on the website. The short story “Blame it on the Squash” by Jen Red was written in her honor. She always made sure that all the members of the site had personalized birthday wishes. She will be greatly missed.
Carmalee is survived by her husband, Jeffrey of Farr West, UT; her children Karrie (Todd) Prall of Henderson, NV; Randy Kent of Farr West, UT; Briana (Chantry) DeWeese of Brigham City, UT; and Jay Jeffrey (Jamie) of Woods Cross, UT; her six grandchildren Heidi, Hannah, and Jacob Prall; Ethan and Carter DeWeese; and Lyla Mitchell; her siblings Marla Foote of Salt Lake City, UT; Devon Jr. (Barb) Foote of Tremonton, UT; Boyd (Cindy) Foote of Layton, UT; Ruth Larios of Kaysville, UT; and Joyce (Dave) Lewis, of Kaysville, UT; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Devon and Betty Foote.
Private family services will be held. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park,4500 Washington Blvd. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Farr West Poplar Stake Center, 1745 North 2300 West, Farr West, Utah. Open mic will start at 4:15 p.m. for sharing memories of Carmalee.
