She is survived by her daughters Denise Sanchez, Shirley Smull and Sonia Strockyj; sons Ruben Maldonado and David Villanueva; her grandchildren Brenda, Olesh and Anthony; and a great granddaughter Romana along with extended family. She was predeceased by a daughter Brenda Sanchez in 1981.
Private services will be held in Allentown followed by interment at St. Raymond's Cemetery in The Bronx.

To a woman who was gracious at heart. My last memory was of her was her making me awesome sandwich. She was always soft spoken. With a smile that remind me. Of clear blue skies. You will be missed and tell grandpa. I miss and love her. Now I can say hi to you anytime of the day. I love you, rest up and thank you. I'm grateful and honored. To have been blessed with your presence.

I remember sharing wonderful times with her at your home in Ridgewood where she was always so welcoming and loving to me and Sean. She was an amazing cook! No hurt in my heart can overcome the joy I feel when I remember my beloved aunt Melito. My mom and her were very close as sisters. They would get together and share precious memories of life growing up together in Puerto Rico. I would listen over again until the words became rooted in me. Her beauty was no accident but the by product of a deep love she passed on to us all. For us to treasure always.

Her sense of humor. She could make a joke about something terrible and turn it into a Tuesday. It´s something I hold onto as my own defense mechanism against bad days, best just move on and make a joke about it. I´ll always love her for that.
