Carmen Homolya Obituary

Carmen L. Homolya (nee Rivera), age 70, of Amherst, passed away at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain, on Wednesday, February 8th, 2023. She was a recipient of a heart transplant, and she was so proud of the fact that awarded her with 32 years of a vibrant life. She was born on April 25, 1952 in Lorain where she lived most of her life and is a 1970 graduate of Admiral King High School High School. After graduating high school, she furthered her education atLorain County Community College where she earned her degree in nursing and began her lifetime career and calling as a Registered Nurse. She worked at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lorain for years and eventually became the Director of Nursing at Golden Acres Retirement Community. However, Carmen was more than a nurse, she was well-respected, had a huge heart and truly cared about everyone she cared for. She was one who raised the bar on what a nurse should be. Through her years as a nurse, she always strived to be better and would take any chance she had to read, study, and learn new things to keep her a step above in her field. She was also a woman of strong faith and would occasionally attend Mass at Sacred Heart Chapel. Carmen had many goals and aspirations in life, but they always carried her to and revolved around her beloved family. She loved her family, especially her kids and grandkids, and her heart and life were fulfilled with them. It was her easy nature to take care of anyone she could. She loved going for drives with her sisters, especially when it was up to the lake to enjoy it's beauty. She also loved venturing out with her daughter to grab something to eat and do some shopping. Something that Carmen always looked forward to with abundant excitement is when she traveled out to Nashville to visit her son, daughter-in-law, and grandkids. And she absolutely enjoyed the nice, warm, sunny days when they could all hang out at their pool together when she was in town for a visit. Carmen had close relationships with and enjoyed her time spent sitting and chatting with her friends at the "C" building, where she lived. And, there were many loved ones who, over the years, were gifted with her beautiful blankets and hats that she knitted and crocheted. Carmen is survived by her daughter, Krissy Homolya, of Amherst, her son, Ken M. (Jessica) Homolya, of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Kayla M. Petro, of Vancouver, Canada, Austin T. Petro, of Amherst, Reaghan L. Taylor, of Amherst, Kenneth M. Homolya, III, of Nashville, TN, Linda M. Homolya, of Nashville, TN, and Ridge H. Homolya, of Nashville; siblings, Eddie Rivera, of Chicago, Hector Rivera, of Amherst, Bill (Velda) Rivera, of Lorain, and Elba Rivera, of Lorain. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cel, Sr., and Angelita Rivera; sisters, Nilda Fernandez and Gloria Gomez, and brother, Cel Rivera, Jr.The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 18th, 2023 from 11:00 am until the time of her memorial service at 1:00 pm in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, OH.
