Carol Sue "Granny" Atchison, a loving mama and cherished granny, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 21st, 2026, at the age of 79. Born in Centralia, Illinois, on Wednesday, September 25th, 1946, the daughter of James Hull and Fern (Mays) Hull. She married Tom Atchison, Sr. on July 19, 1961 in Walnut Hill, and he preceded her in death on September 17, 2000.

Carol dedicated her life to caring for others, working as a private sitter, and nurturing countless children whom she loved as her own. Her passion for life was evident in her love of playing cards, Bingo, fishing, and camping, activities she often enjoyed surrounded by her devoted family and friends. Her presence brought warmth and laughter to every gathering, and she was revered for her charitable spirit and unwavering kindness.

A woman deeply rooted in family values, Carol is survived by her loving children: Tom Atchison, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Walnut Hill, Richard Atchison, Sr. and wife Cheryl of Patoka, Robert Atchison and wife Julie of Sandoval, Tina Atchison of Centralia, and Michael Atchison and wife Tara of Martin, TN. Her legacy continues through her 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, all of whom cherished her dearly.

Carol is also survived by her siblings: Linda Finckbone and husband Lee of Centralia, Virginia Ord and husband Steve of Walnut Hill, Judy Glammeyer of Sandoval, Betty Steinkamp and husband Roy of Sandoval, and Donnie Hull and wife June of Centralia, Marsha Hodge husband Joel of Odin, along with her step-sister, Janet DeClue of Arkansas. She is remembered lovingly by her many nieces and nephews who brought joy to her life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Atchison Sr., her parents, James and Fern Hull, two children, Melissa and John Atchison, grandson, William Atchison, and three brothers, Gary, Charles, and James Hull, all of whom she held close to her heart and missed dearly.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on February 26, 2026, at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois. A Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 pm officiated by Pastor Jonathan Urshan, celebrating Carol's beautiful life and the love she shared with everyone she met. Burial will follow at Boyd Cemetery. In memory of Carol, memorial donations may be made to the family and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home located at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523, who is honored to be of service to Carol's Family.
