Carol Ann (Coughlin) Atkins
Sunrise: 12/24/1935

Having been surrounded by so much love from so many people, our Mom/Nana/Mimi/Gigi/Auntie said goodbye to her life here on Earth to go be with her family and friends in Heaven. We just know she was greeted by the whole crew, with her loving husband, Bob, being the first one to welcome her and a great big "Hoohooo" from her sister, Betty.
Born and raised in Boston/Roxbury, Carol graduated from Girls High School in Boston. She had worked at Schrafft's Candy and enjoyed bringing treats home to her family. This was just a part of her sweet personality. At about age 25, she started working at New England Telephone as a 411 Information Operator, where she worked off and on until her retirement in 1992. This was well suited for her gift of gab.
Oh, how she loved to sing! When they moved to Hanover in 1966, she joined the choir of St. Mary of the Sacred Heart church where she was a member for many years. Carol also had opportunity to travel the World as a member of Sweet Adelines International where she was able to share her gorgeous voice with crowds of people as well as help to teach children the importance of harmony.
When they retired, she and Bob became "Snow Birds", traveling back and forth from their second home in Ft. Myers, Florida, where they enjoyed many years of fun and friendship. While back in Massachusetts, one of her favorite daily activities was "Doing Lunch" with her sisters, nieces and friends.
Carol was the youngest of 14 children born to Francis and Mary (Dooley) Coughlin, all of whom have predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter, Judi and her husband, W. Jevens Strachan; her sons Robert, Jr, and John (Jay); her daughter Sally and her husband, Charles SanGeorge, II, and: her son, David. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jevie and his wife Ally, Jill and her husband Matt, Melissa, Noelle, Jaymie, Lucy and Rebecca as well as her great grandchildren, Will, Stevie, Molly and Ben. Auntie Carol is also survived by countless nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday July 26th from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Rte 53 in Hanover. A funeral mass will be held the following morning, Saturday July 27th at 11:00am at Our Lady of the Angels - St. Mary's, 392 Hanover St., Rte 139 in Hanover. Interment will be held directly following the funeral mass, at Hanover Cemetery, 47 Main St., Hanover.
Carol's family would like to whole heartedly thank the staff of Southwood at Norwell Nursing for the amazing, gentle and loving care they provided to both Carol and her late husband, Bob, during their final years.
