Carol Buglio

Carol Buglio of Jamestown Rhode Island passed away on September 19, 2024 at the age of 83.

Carol was the treasured wife of Ben Buglio for 63 years, loving mother of Matthew (Dr. Marisa) Siebel and grandmother of Noah and Austin Siebel, devoted sister of Suzanne (Dr. Yale) Caplan, cherished aunt to Ilene (Larry) Berman, Lee (Christina) Caplan and Erica (Tom) McFarland, sister-in-law to Susan Rittenhouse and aunt to Nicko Libowitz. She was predeceased by her beloved parents Ida and Aaron Libowitz and brother Michael Libowitz.

Carol grew up in Baltimore Maryland where she attended Forest Park High School and went on to graduate with a degree in Sociology from Montclair State University in New Jersey. She had a notable career as director of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) of Northern New Jersey. She initiated a series of dialogs between the Jewish, Muslim, African American and Catholic communities to build positive relationships. She developed lasting relationships with Monsignor John Gilchrist and Sister Doris Delatto. Representing AJC of New Jersy she made informational trips to Israel meeting prominent Israeli leaders. A highlight of her career was leading her AJC members to meet the remaining Jewish communities of Budapest and Prague. Carol's selfless and dedicated service for community relationships was recognized with awards from the Archdiocese of Newark, Commission of Interreligious Affairs, Jewish Historical Society and the Northern Chapter of the AJC.

Carol was passionate about travel. She and Ben enjoyed visiting 34 countries in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, with her favorite city being Florence. She loved and became very involved in her town of Jamestown RI where she served as President of Friends of the Library and was an active member of the Historical Society.

Carol was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was known for her kindness, sense of humor, positive attitude and intelligence. She will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her.
