Carol Ferryman, 67, a lifelong resident of Irwin and Union County, passed away peacefully Monday evening, November 24, 2025, at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center with her loving family by her side.
One of two children, Carol was born March 6, 1958, in Marysville to the late Charles L. and Jane (Bolen) Stillings. A student at Fairbanks High School, she graduated from Tolles before starting at Kettering Nursing School, where she earned her degree as a Respiratory Therapist. It was around this time she fell in love with a handsome young man, by the name of Richard "Rick" Ferryman, and they married on September 8, 1979, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chuckery, beginning 46 years of love, friendship, family, and devotion to one another.
While she began her working career as a Respiratory Therapist for Madison County Hospital, she also worked as a school bus driver for the Harold Lewis School, then Fairbanks Local Schools for 30 years. A woman of strong faith, she and her husband, Rick, were members of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Dublin for 25 years before coming back to her home church at St. Paul's, where she was a member of the sunshine committee. A natural nurturer, Carol was the warm fire everyone loved to stand around. She enjoyed taking care of people, whether it was an extra pair of gloves or chapstick for her school bus kids during winter time, or making sure her family had extras of things she found. She never missed sending cards for birthdays, or illnesses, and always made sure the people in her life knew they were thought of.
A green thumb at heart, Carol enjoyed gardening with her vegetables and flowers, as well as mowing around the house. She had a soft spot for animals and loved each of the cats and dogs that she had throughout the years. Beyond her gardening skills, she was an excellent cook, and always made way more food than necessary for family get togethers. She thrived in the role of mom and "meme," and made so many priceless memories with her family during frequent trips to St. Pete Beach in Florida for Christmas. Quite simply, Carol was the heart of her family, and her generous, loving, and thoughtful ways will remain instilled in her loved ones for many more years to come.
Carol is survived by her loving husband, Rick; beloved children Sarah L. (Jeremy) Straley and Matthew C. Ferryman; adored grandchildren Raylan, Brooklyn, and Sutton; her brother and sister-in-law Lloyd & Cindy Stillings; her in-laws Dan (Lois) Ferryman, Dave, Scott, and Brian (Melanie) Reed; as well as several much-loved nieces, nephews, her church family, and friends whom she considered family.
Along with her parents, Carol was also preceded in death by a son, Phillip R. "Pheb" Ferryman, in 1998.
Calling hours will be 2-5 pm Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Ingram & Snyder Funeral Home, 975 N. Maple St., Marysville. Funeral services to celebrate Carol's life will be held 11 am Monday, December 1, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 7960 SR 38, Milford Center (Chuckery), with Pastor Paul Schlueter officiating. Burial will follow at Milford Center Cemetery next to her son, Phillip.
