Carol Sue Gjerde

Carol Sue Gjerde (nee Legan), age 79, a resident of Plainfield, IL and formerly of Naperville and Bolingbrook, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Brookdale of Lisle, IL. She was born on August 20, 1945, in Dallas, MO.
Carol is survived by her loving sons, Brian (Alicia) Gjerde of Wheaton, Steve Gjerde (Tiffany Nieto) of Naperville, and Mike (Tara) Gjerde of Plainfield; her cherished grandchildren, Zachary, Evan and Owen Gjerde; Matthew, Payton and Delylah Gjerde; Michael, Anthony and Sophia Gjerde; her brothers, Harold (Phyllis) Legan of Marshfield, MO and Darrel (Alice) Legan of Phillipsburg, Mo; sister, Wilma Lewis of Halfway, MO and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Leonard A. Gjerde in 2021; her parents, Dorsey Walker and Bernice Legan; brothers, Jesse, James, Paul, Ralph and sister, Clara.
Carol graduated from Conway High School, Conway, MO, then went on to work at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri Army Base where she met her beloved Len and after only three months of dating were married. While raising her family, Carol took various jobs, but her passion was always her family and her church. She was an active member of several churches throughout her life and used her God given musical talents both as a singer in the choir and a self-taught pianist. Some of Carol's fondest memories were singing with her siblings at family reunions and teaching her children and grandchildren to sit down beside her at piano to play a song together.
In their retirement years, Carol and Len loved doting on their grandchildren with sleepovers and attending their various sporting events.

A celebration Carol's life will follow Wednesday, 11:00 AM at the church with Rev. Scott Poling officiating.
Interment: Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
