Carol Sue Burkett - Macro - Graham
1938 - 2025
Carol passed away late on Saturday, September 13th, 2025, in Monroeville, PA. She was born on July 31, 1938, in Home, PA, to Naomi Rebecca (Baker) and Harold Emerson Burkett.
Carol was an educator, musician, volunteer, and professional diabetic having lived with and managed type 1 diabetes since the age of 12.
Carol grew up in West Lebanon, PA, and was often referred to as "the banker's daughter". Her father, Harold Burkett, ran the West Lebanon Bank and the Burkett family lived in the apartment above the Bank.
Carol married Kenneth Macro in 1960; they built a house in Shelocta, PA, and she worked at Saltsburg High School as a home economics teacher. Later that year, she gave birth to a daughter, Becky Ruth Macro, who only lived for a few days. In 1964, she gave birth to a son, Kenneth Macro Jr.
In the early 1970's Carol, Ken, and Kenny moved to "the mountains" in Cameron County, PA. There, Carol gave birth to her 2nd son, Klint Macro, in 1974. Carol starred in a TV show called At Home with Carol that aired on a local Emporium, PA, TV channel. She said of the show, "I was Martha Stewart before Martha Stewart was a thing". Carol and Ken divorced in the early 1980's and she remarried to William (Byll) Graham in 1983 (deceased in 1994).
Carol moved back to Indiana, PA, in the early 2000's, where she lived until 2024, when she moved in with her son Klint's family in New Kensington, PA.
Over the years, Carol enjoyed life and a variety of experiences, and was often quoted as saying, "Make lemonade out of lemons. And what, me worry?" She appeared on the Wilken's Amateur Hour on KDKA-TV in 1957 with her brother Butch, managed the little league team in West Lebanon, PA, was the president of the Cameron County Fair Association and director of the Cameron County Tourist Promotion Agency, played piano for various churches, volunteered for multiple community-oriented endeavors, and performed in various bands, including The Young and The Rest of Us, Mountain Gold, Cameron, New Life Revival, and Country Tyme. She loved music, baseball, the Steelers, snowmen figurines, and her family.
She is survived by her siblings: Harold "Butch" Burkett, Judy (Roy) McCullagh, Tom (Suzanne) Burkett, sons: Ken Macro Jr, and Klint Macro, daughters in law: Nancy (Hilgefort) Macro, Jennifer (Shema) Macro, grandchildren: Karmen (Melissa) Macro, Isaac (Katie) Macro, Addison (Suse Schmitz) Macro, August "Augie" Macro, great grandchildren: Kallum Macro, Savina Macro, Dylan Panattoni, Cooper Macro, Cody Macro.
She is also survived by her stepchildren and their families, whom she lovingly referred to as her "Graham Kids".
There have been many people through the years who "claimed" Carol and lovingly referred to her as "Grandma Carol". This was a moniker she greatly valued.
Carol's remains will be buried next to her late husband Byll in Driftwood, PA, on Saturday, October 25th at 12:30PM. There will be a "Carol Party" celebration of life at Crete Church, 25 Brady Road, Indiana, PA 15701 on Sunday, October 26th from 1PM to 3PM. Friends and family are invited and encouraged to attend.

My deepest sympathy to Carol´s family. I am a 1971 graduate of Saltsburg HS. Mrs Macro was one of my favorite teachers. I loved Home Ec. She made it fun and interesting. She always took a personal interest in her students. I treasure fond memories of a very special teacher and friend.
